Meet the Crew
Born and raised on Vancouver Island B.C. my first job was at a small restaurant in the town where I grew up. That was the start of it all and where I developed my love for food. As the restaurant grew into a thriving hot spot I took every advantage to learn as much as I could. I continued to work in restaurants for the next 10 years. I learnt new skills, met great people and put myself through University to become a Certified Veterinary Technician.
I have always had a passion for cooking as well as a passion for animals. Most often this meant working at an animal clinic by day and restaurant by night.
My work as a Veterinary Technician led me to South America to volunteer spaying and neutering animals. Upon my return I realized that I could combine my love for animals and cooking. I could make delicious treats that bring smiles to faces and use partial proceeds from each box to support stray animals.
In my travels I discovered how much help is needed to provide better veterinary care and supplies for stray, sick and injured animals. RockCoast will allow me to purchase medical supplies and volunteer time. The hope is that this support will increase quality of life for animals and enable a higher level of veterinary care.
RockCoast confections provide high quality sweets and allow people to treat themselves or others to something truly special. I use only natural ingredients that are gluten free and free of artificial flavourings and colours. I am working hard to purchase my ingredients as locally as possible to support other businesses in the community.
RockCoast is a labour of love and passion for me. I'm so excited for you to try my mouth watering toffee bark but watch out - its addictive!
Roxana, AKA Mom
My Mom has spent more hours then I can count in the kitchen helping me to grow my business to where it is today.
When I was young she owned a sewing company. Watching her I learned many invaluable tools and lessons. From her I learned to sew, cook, money management, responsibility, creativity and that good things come from hard work.
I spent a ton of time when I was younger attending markets that she was vending at. Mostly spending all of her profits on food, haha, but sometimes coming up with little business ideas myself and selling them along side her at her table.
Sadly she had to sell the business due to a back injury, but still spends many hours creating beautiful sewn and knitted garments for gifts and sale.
My business would not be where is it today without her help.
Jonny, AKA Hubby
The carpenter behind the scenes. From our displays to our production facility/ storefront he creates a beautiful working space for us. With the help of many other local amazing tradesmen they all keep us up and running smoothly.
Hi, my name is Jen. My Mother was a cook and my Granny was a baker so I started to cook at a young age. I moved to Sidney, BC in 2002 and started working at a local restaurant until 2010. I then had a beautiful little girl and concentrated on raising her and passing on the family baking/ cooking traditions.
I moved on to start a tasting company and sold it 3 years later.
Aside from my passion for food, I spend most days with my kiddo, crafting, painting and gardening.
Kathryn, Sales Rep
Hello! My name is Kathryn Wood, island girl turned tree lover living in beautiful Maple Ridge. I have a background in hospitality, working at some of the most reputable hotels in Vancouver with a focus on catering and events. When life lead me to become a mom of two energetic little girls I started my own business as an Infant and Child Sleep Consultant. As my girls grew my interests did too and I am ready for a new adventure! I love to get outside, drool over interior design, binge watch Netflix with the hubby and have a serious addiction to popcorn. RockCoast has a special place in my heart as I have watched one of my oldest friends (25 years!!) turn her love of food into a thriving business offering delicious treats and I couldn’t be more excited to join her team and share them with you!
